Fourteen Year 6 rugby players travelled to Chesterfield on Wed 27th Sept to compete in the Barlborough Hall Rugby Festival. They participated in 4 games of rugby, winning two, drawing one and losing one. They enjoyed ice cream and hotdogs after the match together with medals for participating. Well done a great performance!
More success for our Rugby teams as our U9 rugby teams also won their matches against a very strong Fairfield School. Both the A & B teams played some strong rugby and deserved their success. U9A won 10-7 and the U9B won 9-5
Both sides showed flair going forward, with some inspirational individual tries on both pitches. Encouragingly, we tackled strongly and proved better at this than Fairfield. Despite numerous knocks, scrapes and bruises, all players who were briefly substituted showed great character and were keen to return to the action as soon as possible.
Try scorers for the A’s – Roman E. 3; Edward M. 3; Alfie A. 1; Om K. 1; Isaac P. 1 and Lucas B. 1.
B’s – James S. 3; Stuart H. 2; Finn R 1; Om K. 2 and Oscar A. 1.
As can be seen, Om scored for both teams.
Many thanks to our referees, Mr Whitehead and Mr Baker and to Mrs Slater for help with supervising the teams.
There were also great results from our Year 5 teams. The A team defeated The Elms by 30-10. Our B team won 40-10.
The U10 B’s played the first of the back to back matches at The Elms, setting a high standard from the start with Sasmeet S. opening the scoring and our players quickly gaining confidence in their ability to tackle. There was an outstanding breakaway try quickly followed by another. Saketh C. added a further 2 tries, showing a lightning pair of heels on both occasions. There was an outstanding contribution from our captain, Henry S., who showed how to lead and tackle by example and scoring the final try. A highly impressive team performance.
The Under 10A’s quickly threw down the gauntlet to The Elms with Verroshan A. scoring the first try within a matter of minutes, thanks to a 15 yards pass from Samuel G. George T., Fletcher P. and Joshua P. proved too much for the opposition to handle; their thrilling individual tries certainly entertained the watching crowd of parents from both teams.
Adit G., Verroshan A., Samuel G. and Henry S. (the latter coming on as sub) were fearless in their tackling.
Outstanding commitment, strength, tenacity and skill, in varying degrees, from all who played – well done!
On Wednesday 4th October 2017, our A & B U11 teams played a match in the Autumn League at Fernwood Primary. The team who amasses the most points wins the Autumn League. Our teams are very well placed going forward to the next matches. So far, 3 players have scored two out of two: Harry E, Oliver D and Eron D. James G was unbeaten with one draw and a win. Next round: Wednesday 22nd November at Fernwood.
Congratulations to the following pupils who achieved success as detailed below in the Individual Championships 2017 at Dovecote School on 7th October:
U8 Group: Aaron S. – 4 points
U9 A Group: Oliver D. County U9 Champion with 4 points.
James G. and Ruben E. – 3 points
U10 A Group: Verroshan A. – County U10 Champion with 4 points.
Henry S. and Tunde A.– 3 points.
Further success for our U11 Cross Country team on Saturday 8th October at Berry Hill with Phoebe F. finishing 1st in the U11 girls race. The U11 boys ran well however final team placements are awaited.
Our U11s competed in the Karnival Festival against 27 other schools. We were unbeaten in our group winning all five matches without conceding a goal. In the semi-final, we were a little fortunate to beat Cantrell school 1-0 to gain a place in the final in a closely fought contest. Sadly, despite dominating the final we lost 2-1. We have however qualified for the Nottingham Schools finals night and will play on the City Ground next May/June. A fantastic effort from all of the team.
