“When you think things are bad,
when you feel sour and blue,
when you start to get mad…
you should do what I do!
Just tell yourself, Duckie,
you’re really quite lucky!
Some people are much more…
oh, ever so much more…
oh, muchly much-much more
unlucky than you!”

Football: U9s Festival

Replicating their success in the Rugby Festival at Barlborough in November by achieving 5 wins and a draw, the footballers bettered their own previous performance by scoring 24 goals and conceding none.

They won the festival with a total of 16points;the second placed team had 13 (Barlborough )

We beat Westbourne  5-0, St Peters 6-0 , Mylnhurst 1-0  (they had an excellent keeper), St Anselm 4-0, Barlborough B 8-0  and we drew 0-0 with Barlborough A(another v good keeper).

Outstanding midfield performances from George T  and Fletcher  P served to dominate the opposition, nullify any threats and provide an excellent platform on which the squad could build. George scored 3 hat tricks in different matches whilst Fletcher scored at least once in every victory. Both boys were praised by visiting coaches for their skilful performances and it is to their credit that they were modest in the light of such accolades.

Joshua P and Sasmeet S both showed ability to find space, exploit the gaps and shoot accurately from distance. As captain, Sasmeet led by example whilst Joshua had played superbly in goal for most of the afternoon so was keen to take his chances when playing outfield and scored 4 well -taken goals. There were highly disciplined performances  in defence from Verroshan, Sam, Euan and Arun. Fred and Millen showed versatility and, pleasingly, an unquestioning acceptance of anything they were asked to do, including playing in goal in Millen’s case.

Overall, excellent maturity and positional discipline from the squad, progressing from a group of 10 centre forwards as we climbed off the bus to a team where everyone knew their roles by the end of the day.  Due to their generally superb behaviour, I had time to be proud of them and time to speak to visiting parents, Mr Thompson and Mr Dodd.  A wonderful afternoon.

Students of the Week

The U9s team for their excellent Sportsmanship at the recent Festival.

Isaac W: For producing an excellent independent poster on the life cycle of a flowering plant in Science and for his effort since starting Yr 5 which has been exceptional and the progress he is beginning to make is due to his application. This is not just isolated to one subject but can be seen in everything he does.

Muhammad M: For producing an excellent independent poster on the life cycle of a flowering plant.

Sam G and Esme W for their ICT work which has been brilliant and their effort in the subject is wonderful.

Ben C in 4W who has had a phenomenal week. His confidence and effort is so much higher than before and I believe that he is becoming more confident and happy in Maths.

Gabe E for being superbly focussed in Maths lessons with excellent effort and helping his peers.
