Well done to the children who played in the B Teams Tournament. They played slowly and thoughtfully throughout the three rounds of chess.

Chess results in West League 2016

Bramcote Hills 14 1/2 pts 1st
NHIJS 13 1/2 pts 2nd
Fernwood 12 pts 3rd
Round Hills 8pts 4th

The pupils played well all evening and they had some close matches. Saahat S and Aman C deserve credit as they were unbeaten in the tournament. Zayan B was a little unlucky. He played well but as his games did not finish they had to be adjudicated and Mr Jones feels that had he been able to play on, he would have achieved a result more worthy of his skill.

Bramcote just beat us in our final match and so win the West League with NHIJS coming second.

U9s vs The Elms

Another wonderful afternoon of expansive rugby where the motto of’ ‘points mean prizes’ gained new meaning under the heading of ‘passes mean merits’.

Thus, under the guise of our newly-adapted motto, both our A and B teams passed the ball as if it was a hot potato and were consequently leading quite comfortably at half- time. Mr Henley happily reported that the A’s also continued to do so in the second half. George T scored 3 tries, James B 2 and Fletcher P added another. The score line could have been even more emphatic if some of the potential tries had been grounded; failure to do so meant that a further 5 tries were disallowed but Mr Henley commented that the team had made great progress since he last saw them a few weeks ago. His feeling was that the final score of 6-3 did not truly reflect our dominance however he was impressed by the way in which they listened to his half-time team talk and to his advice afterwards regarding targets for the future.

Man of the match – George T.

From the cushion of a 3-1 lead at half-time, based on some beautifully slick passing and use of all the available space, the B’s unfortunately reverted to type in their match, with a couple of players starting to dominate possession in the drive forward, resulting at times in loss of impact as a unit. Verroshan A was strong in the tackle whilst Adit G, Sasmeet S and Matthew M were agile and slippery with their darting runs. As captain for the day, Mandip L led by example and suffered a few knocks for his efforts but he remained undaunted and gave everything for the cause. Our try scorers were Matthew M and Sasmeet S with 2 each, whilst Arun S and Adit G contributed 1 apiece. A stray foot over the sideline denied us further tries on 3 occasions and, sensing our disappointment, The Elms gained momentum in the final few minutes, running in a couple of tries. Determined not to be denied by ‘Fergie time,’ the team held out to win 6-4.

Men OTM – Mandip L and Matthew M.
