Last night our U11 football team put in a faultless performance to defeat Ambleside 2-1 after extra time. We dominated throughout the match.  Max M-S smashed a fantastic goal to make it 1-0. They equalised late in the match from their only effort at goal. In extra time Luca V scored with 3 seconds remaining to remove the terror of a penalty shoot-out.

We are now in the final of the Chairman’s City Cup.  This will be played next week on Wednesday 4th May. (When our U10 will also be competing in their final).

Man of the match-The whole team led by Captain Isaac M were brilliant, but special mention to Hector M.

Report on ESSA East Midland regional round at Louth, Lincs on Friday 22nd April, 2016.

After a successful afternoon at NHIJS Sports Day, Isaac M, Hou Yu L, Archie G, Milad FD and Charlie V travelled for over two hours to Louth, Lincolnshire to take part in the East Midlands regional round for the national ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) Swimming competition. Schools from five counties swim against each other for places at the national finals at Ponds Forge Sheffield. This year we were placed in the “Medium Schools” category which was actually more challenging as we were swimming against teams with boys and girls in them; the competition was tough. The first event was a straight final for the freestyle relay teams where we swam against six other strong teams and came a close third qualifying for a place at the National Finals. We were determined to get our medley team into the national finals too so everyone swam so hard to gain a place; the medley team came third which again qualified us for a place at the finals! Everyone was delighted, especially after a busy afternoon at Sports Day! Many thanks to all the parents who assisted with the travel arrangements and for all of their support. The children were an absolute credit to themselves and the school-congratulations! We look forward to seeing them swim on Saturday 18th June at the Olympic sized pool at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Congratulations to the U10s who finished in 2nd place.  This means they have qualified for the final on May 4th.

On Tuesday 19th April, our U11 football team defeated Sycamore School 1-0 in the quarter-final of the Chairman’s City Cup. Goal scorer was Max M-S. We played very well and should have won by a few more goals. We will now play Ambleside Primary for a place in the final.

SwimmingReport on Swimming Gala V Derby Grammar School
The 23rd March saw the first ever swimming fixture against Derby Grammar School at home for U9s, U10s and U11s A and B teams. This was a great opportunity for all of our Tuesday lunchtime Swimming squad to put into practise everything they had learnt and worked hard on. There were some very close finishes and some superb swimming from swimmers in both schools. Everyone conducted themselves very well indeed and a great afternoon was had by all. The results were as follows:

NHIJS U11 A team 30 points B team 18 points

NHIJS U10 A team 32 points B team 20 points

NHIJS U9 team 28 points B team 15 points

Overall, NHIJS A team came first with 90 points, Derby came second with 62 points and NHIJS B team came third with 53 points.

Well done to everyone, particularly those representing the school for the first time at Swimming!
