Report for IAPS Swimming regional rounds held at Stamford

On Thursday 11th February, I was proud to take ten NHIJS pupils to represent the school in the regional rounds of a national swimming competition for independent schools. This year’s closest regional round was held at Stamford School; 32 regional rounds are held all around the country with 3,000 swimmers participating in total. The top 16 fastest swimmers qualify for the individual finals and the top 12 relay teams are selected for the national IAPS Finals at K2, Crawley on Saturday 7th May, 2016. There were10 schools taking part in the Stamford round but the boys knew that it was all against the stopwatch. All of the pupils swam exceedingly well and should be proud of their efforts in the face of strong competition. Many gained personal best times and all were proud of their achievements.  It was a pleasure to take all 10 pupils on the trip. They were a credit to themselves and the school. We look forward to hearing how they performed when all the results are in from the regional rounds in the Summer Term.

PoetryEnglish poetry Competition:

Congratulations to Luca R-A, Alexei S, Finn D and Cole T-S whose poems were selected as winning finalists in the St Martin’s Ampleforth Competition and have been invited to the School for a recital.

ChessChess Congratulations to all players who played very well in this competition. Three teams have now qualified for the National Semi Finals: two of our Under 11 teams, both A and B and our Under 9 A team. Well done to them all.

FootballerFootball The Under 8 A team were defeated 5-2 today away at Fairfield Prep. The scoreline was rather flattering to the home side who took advantage of some rather static defending along with a couple of fortuitous goals during goalmouth scrambles and a penalty . Nottingham shared much of the position and had by far the better and more numerous chances but it was one of those days where the ball just wouldn’t cross the line. We hit the post twice and crossbar once. The Nottingham goals came from an Arun S shot that squirmed through the keepers fingers and Fletcher P.

Special mentions to George T and Euan D for running their socks off, Arun S for some excellent shots and Joshua P for a couple of dramatic saves in goal.

The Under 8s B team fared much better and came away 6-0 winners perhaps Mr Webster was the talismanic presence in supervising there?

All the children enjoyed the experience and were jovial and well behaved throughout. Coach Crossland

Other results: U9A’s narrowly lost 5-4 and the U9B’s lost 1-0.

Congratulations to Cormac C  for playing chess for the whole day on Sunday in an age group far above his own. He helped the School Under 11 team C, who were a player short, by stepping in and playing for them. He didn’t win any matches and he did not moan or complain. He stepped in and knew it was going to be difficult for himself. Great attitude.

Fareed K for stopping to help Mrs Kawalec when she had a disaster on the stairs.
