football championsCongratulations to U11 football team becoming Nottingham City 5-a-side champions (We have retained the trophy we won last year).  We have now qualified for the Nottingham Kids Cup final to be played at Meadow Lane on 7th February. We will play at half-time during Notts County’s match v Chesterfield.  This is in addition to the finals’ night to be held at the City Ground, following our qualification during the Karnival Cup back in October.

The competition was run on a league basis. P5 W 4   L 1. We won the league by 3 points. Fernwood scraped into 2nd place on goal difference ahead of Highbank with 9 points.

NHS 1 Highbank 0 (Isaac) NHS 3 Djanolgly 0 (Isaac 3) NHS 1 Southwark 0 (Isaac) NHS 0 Fernwood 3 (We conceded 3 goals inside the first 2 minutes, before we learnt how to tackle!) NHS 1 Dovecote 0 (Alex Cochrane)

The competition consisted of the winners and runners up from each of the three qualifying tournaments and was very competitive. The players were a credit to the school and behaved fantastically well throughout.

Report on gala against QEGS, Wakefield.

On Tuesday 25th November, NHIJS hosted a gala against QEGS Wakefield at home. The pupils were very excited and looking forward to the strong competition. The gala started with the medley relays in all age groups, followed by individual events and then finished off with freestyle relays. There were some close races and the strong competition brought the best out of both teams. The results were as follows:

Results NHIJS QEGS
Y6 47 59
Y5 36 45
Y4 30 39
Total 113 143

Many of our boys achieved personal best times and were a real credit to the school. They enjoyed the gala and showed incredibly good sportsmanship.

Many thanks to the parents who came to support us, to our super timekeepers, to Tom Talbot and our school lifeguards, to Miss Thorpe for scoring and to all the teachers for setting up and supporting the gala.

Football

County Cup
NHIJS 1 Awsworth 3
Played against a very good team. 1-1 at half time, but looked very tired in the second half. (The boys had played a lot of sport & played rugby prior to the match). Aamran scored our goal, (a terrific team goal).

NHIJS 4 Northgate 4
Goals from Isaac (2), William & Alex ensured our unbeaten league campaign continued. The pitch was a leveller and their keeper produced heroics to keep Northgate in the game.

Rugby Ball Rugby

U11Our U11 team lost 35-0. Their coaches commented that the Ratcliffe U11 team is the strongest team they have had for many years. They were giants too, with many of them looking like Yr 8 boys. (3x the size of some of our own players)

U10 – We met a strong Ratcliffe team and lost by two tries to nil, in what was a very even match.  We were strong in the tackle but could not pass the ball well enough to break down a very organised and strong Ratcliffe defence.

U9 – Our U9 defeated Ratcliffe by 4 tries to 2. Luca V scored all 4 tries.

Fun RunCross Country

The 16 boys that represented the school on Thursday were a credit, they behaved very well and performed well. The event attracted some very tough opposition, Ranby House in particular. The year 4 (including two yr3) did very well to finish 4th out of 12 schools and 71 runners. Luca V. won a trophy for finishing 3rd. The U11 team ran exceptionally well with all of the boys finishing in the top 40. There were 75 in the race. Isaac M. won the race and the team finished 1st, collecting a trophy on the way. This was also the first victory over Ranby House for many years.

FootballerFootball
In the U10s Foremarke Festival on Saturday we came 3rd out of 4 in our group.  We could have had more goals had the goalmouth not been waterlogged at the end we were shooting into for a couple of matches! However, the boys played with maximum effort – well done.

Thank you to Mr Shaw for braving a very, very wet Saturday.

Our U11 team defeated Northgate 6-1. Goals were scored by Isaac M. (2), William T., Aamran A,  Max M-S and Alastair S (a 35 yard special from almost in his own half).  It was a fantastic team performance and the team played their best football of the season so far.

There was also a great performance from our U11 football team who beat Carrington 7-0, scorers were Thomas CDF, Alastair S, Alex C, William T (3) & Isaac M

Rugby BallRugby
Well done to the U11’s v Derby on Monday and well done to all of Year 5 for putting up a fight v Hymers and Derby.

For many of the boys they played their first rugby competitive fixture and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The U10s B team vs Hymers lost 40-10 at Valley Road on Monday. They found it tough to cope with the physical strength of the Hymers team but put in a great effort. Tries scored by Josh L. (2)

Our U11 footballers qualified as runners up (for the finals of the Notts 5-a-side tournament.)

9 points were just enough to pip Our Lady School (8 points) after they drew their last match.

Prior to half-term, they won the East League, then totally outplayed and beat Fernwood in the semi- final (the team that beat us 6-0 the night before). Unfortunately we then lost 1-0 in the final.

We have qualified for the finals night at the City Ground, so the road to Wembley is still on!
