SwimmingSwimming
IAPS swimming regional rounds

On Tuesday 25th February, the u10 and u11 A teams set off  to Warwick School for the regional rounds of the I.A.P.S. swimming competition. This is a national competition involving just independent schools whereby schools participate at various regional galas throughout the country. The galas are officiated by ASA officials and times are taken for each stroke at each age group as well as for relay teams and compared with those from schools nationwide. The individual swimmers who have achieved the top 16 fastest times are then invited to a ‘Finals Gala’ which takes on 10th May 2014 at K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley, West Sussex as well as the top 12 fastest relay teams. Traditionally this ‘Finals Gala’ has always been a very tough competition although we have, in past years, had some boys participating.

DSCF2309After a super journey down to Warwick and a little bit of fresh air, our boys changed and warmed up in the 25m pool. There were 10 schools participating in this particular gala, 4 of which had boys’ teams. All of the boys swam exceedingly well in their events against strong competition and these are times that were recorded:

SkiingSkiing
There have been a number of skiing successes over the half-term.

Cole TS was awarded his Etoile de Bronze (Bronze Star) which required him to be an accomplished piste skier and ski down a slalom course of 15 to 20 gates.  He will now move into the Gold Star class which is the highest award children can achieve in the ESF programme.

Harry TS was awarded the Flèche de Bronze (Bronze Arrow) for Giant Slalom.  This DSCF2317involved him in racing down a Giant Slalom course with 25 to 35 gates and a vertical drop of 200 to 250 metres.  First a ski instructor skied the course as fast as he could and then Harry had to do the same course within a time which is not more than 50% higher than the instructor.

Nathan H received his Level 2 skiing award and from this success has decided to sign up for Mr Jones’ ski trip next year.

Oscar M gained his ‘snowflake’ award.
