Last Tuesday, Reception boys travelled back in time to the Victorian days to experience a Victorian Christmas at Newstead Abbey. It was our first school visit, and we were so excited about going on the coach! We all enjoyed dressing up and pretending to be back in 1869. We learnt about how things have changed over the centuries, and were most surprised to find there was no central heating or electricity back then. We played with Victorian toys in the Nursery Attic, made spice bags in the still room, sugared mice in the kitchen, and even watched moving pictures in the projector room. Finally, at the end of the day we sat around lanterns and sang Christmas songs with Mr Webb the Victorian gentleman of the house. We all feel very Christmassy now!
